The Silent Struggle - And How I Took My Power Back

Facts don’t lie — and neither do our bodies.

Here are some sobering statistics that too many people are quietly living behind:

  • 800,000: The number of people, worldwide, who die by suicide every single day.

  • #2: Suicide is the second leading cause of death worldwide for ages 15–29.

  • 1 in 5: The chance that you or someone you love will experience a mental illness in your lifetime.

  • 1.6 million: The number of Canadians who report unmet mental health needs.

  • 10–20 years: The amount of life that can be lost due to untreated mental illness.

I share these not to scare you — but to shine a light on what’s been hiding in the dark. And because I’ve lived it.

About ten years ago, I was that woman who looked like she had it together — parenting, working, keeping up the smile. But inside? I was drowning.

I would silently cry while making dinner, or lock myself in the bathroom just to fall apart. I truly believed my family might be better off without me. The weight of anxiety, depression, and inflammation crushed my ability to function — not just emotionally, but physically. My gut was a wreck, my skin was flaring, and I was exhausted all the time.

But here’s the thing: I didn’t need more prescriptions. I needed truth. I needed healing. I needed a reset.

Healing Begins in the Gut

Most people don’t realize this, but over 90% of serotonin — the feel-good chemical that affects mood, sleep, digestion, and even libido — is produced in the gut. Not the brain. The gut!

If your gut health is off, it impacts your entire system: Mood, energy, immunity, hormones — all of it.

Here are some common symptoms of gut dysbiosis (imbalance in the gut microbiome):

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Skin issues like eczema or rashes

  • Brain fog
